Dick and Leslie Bush
35 years ago, Dick, a young Stanford engineer, and his wife, Leslie, fell in love with a piece of property in the high foothills of the Sierras above Placerville. After extensive research as to which varieties of grapes might thrive there, Dick sealed his fate, choosing to plant the family’s vineyard, at that time the highest elevation vineyard in California.
Madroña was an intergenerational project from the start. With 4 children and the help of Dick and Leslie’s parents, they began the process of creating Madroña. From laying out and planting the vineyards, to building their home and winery, Dick lent an engineer’s eye and a farmer’s soul to creating a home for his family and a thriving business for generations to come.
Dick and Leslie’s love of the land, their family and their community is at the heart of what makes Madroña so special. You can often find both in the vineyards, in the winery or in the tasting room with wines to share and stories to tell. Come on by and share a glass!
